Phillip R. Newman

Phillip R. Newman is a founding partner in the law firm of Puryear, Newman & Morton, PLLC.  He is a 1993 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1988.  He was raised in Brentwood, Tennessee, and graduated from Brentwood High School in 1984.

After graduating from law school in 1993, Phil began his legal career in Nashville, Tennessee, at Manier, Herod, Hollabaugh & Smith, where he worked for more than four years.  There, he focused his practice in civil litigation.  

In 1997, Phil became a founding partner in Puryear & Newman, PLLC.  Today, he continues to focus his practice in civil litigation.  Phil represents individuals injured at work or through the fault of another.  He also represents individuals involved in all aspects of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, parental relocation, and post-divorce.  He also represents individuals and businesses involved in disputes or commercial litigation.  

Phil has been licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee since 1993.  He has practiced law in the state trial courts in Williamson, Davidson, Rutherford, Wilson, Dickson, Maury, Marshall and Humphreys Counties in middle Tennessee.  He is admitted to practice law in the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of the Federal District Court of Tennessee.  He has argued cases before the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the Tennessee Supreme Court.  

Phil is recognized by the Tennessee Supreme Court as a Rule 31 listed mediator for family and general civil cases in Tennessee.  As such, he assists individuals at various stages of litigation resolve their legal disputes out of court.  

Phil is a member of the Tennessee, Williamson County and Davidson County Bar Associations.  He is married to Jude White, with whom he has a son, John Patrick Newman.
